Why go with an Authorized Dealer vs. Gray / Black Market?
« on: December 06, 2018, 09:38:56 PM »

Getting your MSI Laptops definitely cheaper in some online stores. But as that old adage goes, you get what you pay for. Many shoppers dont realize that theyre buying from the so-called gray market resellers, hence the very cheap prices. Simply put, these gray market resellers mainly purchase goods overseas and resell them here, bypassing the brands authorized or licensed sellers here in the Philippines, and government regulations as well.
One of the biggest risks of buying from a gray market reseller is the lack of quality control. Since these resellers dont deal with the manufacturer directly, they inadvertently end up selling fakes.

Beneficial Characteristics of the White Market / Authorized Resellers

There are several main characteristics that you should know that you gain when dealing with a authorized reseller instead of a Gray or Black market vendor and resellers. Perhaps the most important is that you'll have the full warranty, with options to purchase extended warranties. You can also custom order many different aspects of the hardware you'll receive if purchasing from the vendor or an authorized reseller. Service and maintenance will also be conducted using certified parts, instead of generic replacements, ensuring your system's hardware will last as long as possible.

Knowing that the parts are certified adds to your safety and security, and can also help you in situations in which your policies regarding storage of sensitive data are examined by authorities. If your system is compromised by the actual hardware you're using, and a security breach or other incident happens, your insurance may decide it will not pay benefits or damages.

The Gray Market Are the Possible Risks Worth the Possible Benefits?

The Gray Market has hardware and software products in a broad spectrum of quality and reliability. Services may not be certified, and can range from good to poor because of it. Without certification, customers do not know how well their hardware will be serviced, or if parts will be from a certified source or not. Parts that are not certified can void valid warranties, so it's very important to be careful and ask questions.

One major problem with Gray Market purchases is that counterfeit items can leak in from Black Market vendors. This would cause whatever warranty might otherwise be available to be null and void, and could also create problems with using the system and hardware in the first place. Software programs may not work after the trial version has expired, and others may be refused registration, forcing you to purchase new software. This is in addition to the expense and time of installing newly purchased copies on each machine requiring it. Because of this, care must be taken when purchasing items from the Gray Market. One major problem with Gray Market purchases that helps to create the other problems is that there is very little, or no, communication with the system's manufacturer. This can force you to rely on information from the seller, who may be more motivated to give you information that might be less than truthful just so he or she can make a sale. Don't buy someone else's headache only to make it your own. This is especially true for hidden damage. It is possible for liquid to have spilled or otherwise entered into hard drives and laptops without immediate damage being experienced. Later, when the liquid has corroded the interior, then damage will become known. Not all sellers will be truthful about any possible problems, with many making sales final and 'as is.

Locating Gray Market Vendors

They are obviously selling Online thru Facebook, OLX, Lazada or Shopee with a cheaper price than the SRP from Authorized Resellers. You may Check the MSI's Authorized Reseller Link Below this Article

Black Market's Hardware Illegal and Counterfeit

The Black Market has many different products of all sorts, and is not limited to only IT hardware and software. If there is a way to make a product, then most likely it has at some point been counterfeited and sold at a much cheaper price.
Sometimes the difference between black and gray market items isn't just on one parameter, but in how they are made, and also how they are sold. New products are sold outside of the channel originally intended to be sold in, and are against what the OEM intended in its rules of engagement. This is where buyers should be especially wary. Otherwise valid warranties can be canceled or voided if counterfeit parts are found on a system.

Where are Black Market Items Found?

Black market items often are found in the Gray Market, sometimes alongside legitimately used products. Other times, Black Market items will be advertised in the same manner.
